Between the age of three to eight weeks kittens eyes begin to change to colors ranging from green yellow and orange to amber copper and brown. The kitten s eyes remain fused shut for the first seven to ten days.
Permanent eye colors range from shades of brown to green. Under 6 weeks or if in an older cat would indicate that it is not a pure burmese. What color their eyes will end up being is a result of the amount of pigment within the tapetum lucidum. At around 6 to 7 weeks of age a kittens eyes may begin to gradually change color.
Blue eyes on a pure burmese would tend to indicate that the kitten is very young eg. No wonder this color is associated with innocence at around six weeks this color may start to change. Once the eye is sufficiently mature these melanocytes begin producing melanin. Not all cat s eyes will change from blue to green gold yellow or brown.
This color change is usually complete by the time a kitten is three months old. When kittens begin opening their eyes the eyes are bright blue in color regardless of what color their eyes turn later as they grow up.
